How to install
sod, well.

A field-tested walkthrough from soil prep to first watering. Follow it start to finish for a lawn that establishes fast and lasts.

Fresh sod rolls ready for install

1 · Prep the soil

Remove old turf and debris. Grade the area to 1 inch below hardscape. Till 4–6 inches deep, amend with compost, and roll for a firm, level base.

2 · Lay the sod

Start along the longest straight edge. Stagger seams like brickwork. Butt edges tightly — never overlap. Cut around obstacles with a sharp knife.

3 · Roll and water

Roll immediately to ensure soil contact. Water thoroughly — the soil beneath should be moist to 4 inches within the first hour of install.

4 · The first two weeks

Water 2–3 times daily for the first week to keep the sod damp. Reduce to daily deep watering in week two. First mow at 10–14 days, cutting no more than one-third of the blade.
